What to expect
Blue Mosque
Also known as the Sultanahmet Mosque, built in the 17th century. This outstanding example of Islamic architecture will not only impress you with its beauty but also help you understand the basics of two architectural styles: classical Ottoman and Byzantine. You will see blue ceramic tiles and stained glass windows. And you will find out which techniques create a special spaciousness in the mosque, making the dome seem suspended in the air.
Topkapi Palace
The symbol of the Ottoman Empire. It is from here that the sultans ruled half of the world for 400 years. Topkapi is also a rich museum. Here you will admire the collection of jewelry of the ruling family, including the 86-carat Kasikci diamond, Janissary weapons, porcelain, and more.
Sultanahmet Square
It was on this square in the 3rd century that Emperor Septimius Severus built a huge hippodrome for sports events, chariot races, gladiatorial battles, and circus performances. You will learn about the most vivid events that took place here over 500 years. And you will see Istanbul's oldest monument - the Egyptian obelisk, 3500 years old!
