About this experience
I will show you the key symbols of Istanbul: Sultanahmet Square, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace. I will tell you about the past and present of the city, sultans and their wives, great architects, and brave warriors. I will help you understand the contradictory nature of Istanbul and decipher the peculiarities of Eastern architecture.
What to Expect
Iconic Istanbul
You will visit the most popular sites of the ancient city:
- Blue Mosque - the signature landmark of Istanbul. It will captivate you with its elegance and grandeur, lavish decor, and delicacy of decorative elements. I will tell you who ordered its construction and why it has six minarets instead of four.
- Hagia Sophia - an outstanding monument of world architecture and a symbol of the 'golden age' of Byzantium. You will learn how its history unfolded and why it recently became a mosque again.
- Hippodrome - centuries ago, it was the center of the city's secular life. I will reveal the connection of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus to it, the spectacular events that took place here, and the role the Hippodrome plays in the city's modern life.
- Topkapi Palace - the main residence of the Ottoman rulers until the mid-19th century. You will stroll through luxurious halls, explore the harem, hear interesting facts about the Turkish series 'Magnificent Century,' and gain a comprehensive understanding of the lives and customs of the sultans.
If desired, you can additionally visit the sultan's harem. The place where the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire lived, where palace intrigues unfolded, and the fate of future rulers of the empire was decided.
