Immerse Yourself in the Atmosphere of Tbilisi
About this experience
The excursion in Tbilisi will not only be a sightseeing walk through the city, but also a light immersion into Kartvelology - Georgian studies. In addition to seeing all the main attractions of the city, you will learn how many Georgian ethnic groups exist, how to distinguish them from each other, and in which dialects they speak. I will tell you about the geographical features of the area, historical facts, and local legends. And most importantly - I will help you feel the city with all your soul and experience the inspiration that people come to Tbilisi for.
What to Expect
I will teach you the art of immersing in the atmosphere of Tbilisi
Walking around Tbilisi should be done leisurely, relaxed, and at the same time attentively studying the details. We will stroll through the streets of the Old Town, visit typical Tbilisi courtyards and authentic cafes. We will walk along the cracks in the pavement, in the shadows of plane trees and gate grilles, and observe the diverse cats basking in the sunny patches. And very soon you will feel that you can wander until late in the evening, until you could wander no more :) We will talk about life in Tbilisi and its residents, drink tea with tarragon and cherry jam, and later you will taste khachapuri with tarragon and understand that they are simply made for each other. In addition, I will tell you where to taste the legendary Georgian wine. From time to time, I will read you poems by Griboedov, Pushkin, Lermontov, Pasternak, Mandelstam, Yesenin, Mayakovsky, Akhmadulina, Yevtushenko, Voznesensky, Vysotsky, who once visited Georgia and wrote beautiful works.
Places without which Tbilisi cannot be imagined
We will start our tour at the Metekhi Church, where the tomb of the Georgian martyr St. Shushanik is located. The church is located on a cliff above the Kura River, and from here you can enjoy a wonderful view of Tbilisi. The church is visible from any point in the center of Tbilisi and has an ancient and intricate history that began as far back as the 12th century. You will see the famous Peace Bridge, one of the 13 most beautiful bridges on earth, and the palace of Queen Daredjan. We will ride the funicular to get a bird's eye view of the city, stroll along the alley and reach the monument of Mother Georgia. You will explore the symbol of the city - the Narikala Fortress, and then descend through the spiral staircase to the Fig Gorge to see the charming waterfall.
Eras of the city in its quarters, streets, and squares
You will visit Abanotubani - the district of sulfur baths where the history of Tbilisi began. You will see the first city square Meidan, walk along the first three streets. Admire the "Italian" courtyards of the Old Town. Visit the Sioni Cathedral, home to the cross of St. Nino, one of the main saints of Georgia. You will see the oldest surviving Anchiskhati Temple where the world's oldest icon is kept. At the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, a three-minute show of the tower clock awaits you. We will walk along Baratashvili Street, where remnants of an ancient fortress wall are preserved, see the building of the Theological Seminary where Stalin and Gurdjieff studied.
