About this experience
Welcome to Gdansk - the maritime capital of Poland and one of the most beautiful Polish cities! Our comprehensive guided tour will cover all the city's highlights from the narrow 'gingerbread' facades of the Royal Route to the Gothic towers of St. Mary's Church. You will learn about the lives of Polish merchants and aristocrats, discover the best views of the city, and most importantly - understand why the unique Gdansk stands out from any other Polish city.
What to Expect
Walking through the ancient streets of Gdansk
We will explore the streets of Dluga and Dlugi Targ, stretching from the Golden to the Green Gate of Gdansk, offering picturesque views of how the city's patricians lived. You will admire the traditional pointed roofs and narrow facades, each hiding a fascinating story. We will stop at the Town Hall, observe the ancient Neptune Fountain, visit the historic Mariacka Street, and take a stroll in the Oliwa Park, located on the site of medieval monastery gardens. Inside the architectural landmark of the city, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you will encounter several masterpieces of world art - the triptych 'The Last Judgment' by Hans Memling and the amazing 15th-century astronomical clock.
The Past and Present of the Free City
Since its foundation, Gdansk has been influenced by two cultures, two historical vectors - the 'northern' Polish and the 'eastern' German. During the tour, you will learn about the key moments in the city's history, embracing both cultures: I will tell you about the Teutonic Knights who ruled Gdansk in the Middle Ages, the city's position between the World Wars, and its modern structure. We will also discuss the locals, their unique mentality, and why the globally recognized 'Solidarity' movement originated here.
