About this experience
Get ready to be charmed by the most beautiful and magical city of Poland, Wroclaw: its gingerbread houses, magnificent Town Hall, the atmosphere of Cathedral Island, and captivating stories about conquerors, kings, and crusaders. You will learn why Wroclaw is called the 'Polish Venice', why the city once rivaled Prague, and how Casanova's adventures ended here. And if we're lucky - we'll meet the legendary lamplighter and go hunting for Wroclaw gnomes!
What to Expect
Starting with Wroclaw
From the city's Town Hall, one of the most beautiful in Europe, we will walk through the ancient streets of Wroclaw to the market square and along the fortress walls. You will see the site of public executions and the library that houses original manuscripts of Copernicus, touch the buildings where monarchs and iconic figures of different eras lived: Marlene Dietrich, Pablo Picasso, and Mikhail Sholokhov. I will help you identify in Wroclaw's architecture the traces of Czech, German, Austrian, and even Dutch influences. I will tell you about the ghost of the White Lady, how a noble knight lost an entire temple in a card game, and Casanova's escapades in Wroclaw. And by climbing the tower of the cathedral, you will enjoy a wonderful panorama of the city.
Cathedral Island - Lamplighters, Gnomes, and Ghosts
Crossing the bridge over the Oder, you will find yourself on Cathedral Island - in the 'Polish Vatican' and the most mysterious part of the city, where Wroclaw was born in 150. Here we will talk about the legends and stories surrounding the island, and if we are lucky, we will meet the famous lamplighter who, like centuries ago, lights the gas lanterns at sunset and extinguishes them at sunrise. And on the way, of course, we will hunt for Wroclaw gnomes!
Furthermore, you will walk along the Wroclaw Imperial University, among the graduates of which are as many as 9 Nobel Prize laureates.
