You will embark on a journey along the picturesque road and famous Alazani Valley. Wander through the quiet streets of the fairytale town of Signagi, make a wish at the ancient plane tree in Telavi, immerse yourself in the 19th-century atmosphere of Chavchavadze House in Tsinandali, learn about the love story of Griboedov and Princess Nino, and discover Georgian Christianity at Bodbe Monastery. And of course, stories about the wines of Kakheti and the legends of this land await you!
What to Expect
Cultural and historical heritage of the region
During this extensive journey to the east of Tbilisi, you will see the most interesting and picturesque places of Kakheti. Admiring the beautiful landscapes along the way, you will hear stories and legends of these places. I will tell you about the origins, development, and features of each monastery, unique house, and architectural object on our route. You will visit:
- Signagi - a charming town with breathtaking views of the Alazani Valley and a rich history. Explore its fairytale streets with memorable architecture and discover why it is called the "City of Love".
- Bodbe Monastery - the burial place of the great Georgian enlightener Saint Nino. Here, you will learn about her life and the times when Georgia converted to Christianity.
- Dzveli Shuamta and Akhali Shuamta Monasteries - Akhali Shuamta (New Shuamta), a 16th-century abode built by Queen Tina of Kakheti, will tell a beautiful story of its origin. And Dzveli Shuamta (Old Shuamta), a complex of ancient churches in a mountainous forest, will provide a sense of solitude and tranquility.
- Alexander Chavchavadze House-Museum in Tsinandali - the estate of an ancient noble family. Pushkin and Griboedov visited here (Griboedov's lifelong love was Nino Chavchavadze), and the Europeanization of Georgia began here.
- Telavi - the residence of Kakhetian kings. In the ancient capital of Georgia, you will see streets from the movie "Mimino", learn about the city's history, and once again enjoy magnificent views.
