About this experience
We will visit the ancient city of Ayutthaya with you. In the 18th century, it was the largest city on earth - home to over 1 million people. Today Ayutthaya is picturesque ruins and stone temples resembling structures from other worlds. During the excursion, you will visit the most interesting places, see unusual Buddha statues, and learn about traditional Thai architecture.
What to Expect
- Wat Ratchaburana Temple, built by Borommarachathirat II in 1424. You will admire the architecture and learn who this temple was dedicated to.
- Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon Temple - a restored Buddhist temple from the 15th century. You will meet monks, light candles, and make a wish at the statue of the reclining Buddha. You will also see the legendary Stupa - a symbol of the Thai king Naresuan's victory over the Burmese.
- Wat Mahathat Temple - was the main temple in ancient Ayutthaya (from 1350 to 1767). It is famous for the Buddha head entwined with tree roots.
- Wat Phra Si Sanphet Temple - an amazing temple that was originally a royal palace. It is now one of the most beautiful places in Ayutthaya.
- Wat Chaiwatthanaram Temple - a restored 17th-century royal Buddhist temple rebuilt from ruins, where the movie "Mortal Kombat" was filmed.
During the excursion, I will tell you the history shrouded in mystery of Ayutthaya. How it was created, who ruled it, and how this city managed to become the largest on the planet. You will learn about the 400-year dominance of the ancient capital of Siam in Southeast Asia and its dramatic end, as well as hear interesting facts about modern Thailand.
