About this experience
Welcome to Ayutthaya - the ancient royal city just a couple of hours drive from Bangkok. You will visit four temples and learn about who built them and for whom. We will tell you where the huge golden Buddha statue stood, and where the most important royal ceremonies took place. At the end, you will enjoy a traditional Thai dinner at a cozy restaurant with Tom Yum soup and fried rice.
What to expect
Wat Chaiwatthanaram Temple
This is one of the most visited historical sites in Ayutthaya. You will learn who King Prasat Thong built this structure in honor of and under the influence of which other temple its architectural style was constructed.
Wat Ratchaburana Temple
This place is known for a golden treasure trove in a large underground stupa. You can descend there to see frescoes from the early Ayutthaya period. By the way, in the 90s, scenes from the famous movie "Mortal Kombat" were filmed here.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet Temple
You can still see the foundation of the Grand Palace, which has not existed for many centuries. We will tell you how the temple was used in the past and what was found during excavations on its territory in the 19th century. And yes, "Mortal Kombat" was also filmed here.
Wat Mahathat Temple
One of the oldest temples in Ayutthaya's history, where important royal ceremonies were held. You will see the remaining pagodas after the fire, the royal hall, frescoes under the Bodhi tree, and the famous Buddha head embedded in the tree root.
