About this experience
Each Tbilisi market is a separate state with its own rules, laws, and smells. I suggest immersing yourself in the bustling life of the main trading points of Tbilisi, where you can feel the special atmosphere and soul of these places.
What to Expect
- Food Market: we will visit the central 'Deserter's Market'. Here you can buy natural Georgian products from real farmers: churchkhela, nuts, dried fruits, cheese, spices, honey, homemade jam, and more. Every resident of Tbilisi knows that products 'from the market' are better than in the supermarket, as every seller here makes these products for themselves and their families. I will help you make a choice, tell you what is used for and share Georgian dish recipes.
- Dry Bridge: This is where the exhibition-sale of paintings by Georgian artists and the 'Flea Market' are located. It's a special world of the past that will reveal the life and customs of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union to you. You will see and be able to buy old items that adorned the apartments and houses of our ancestors, as well as souvenirs at the lowest prices in Tbilisi.
- 17th-Century Wine Cellar on a narrow street in the Old Town, where a sommelier will introduce you to the ancient technology of making Georgian wine. If you wish, you can try several varieties of Georgian wines (tasting is complimentary) and purchase them.
If you wish, after our walk, we can continue to explore Georgia from the inside and visit a Georgian woman for a master class in Georgian cuisine. Under her guidance, you will prepare delicious khinkali and khachapuri, as well as taste:
- eggplants and bell peppers with walnuts
- pkhali
- mushrooms with sulguni cheese
- cucumber and tomato salad dressed with aromatic homemade oil
- Georgian cheeses
- traditional sweets
- wine
- chacha
- lemonade
And of course, the host-cook will gladly share the recipes of all these dishes. You can agree on the menu, add other dishes if desired, or order a special dessert if you have a special occasion. The cost of the standard menu mentioned above depends on the number of participants.
Organizational Details
- Transportation costs are included in the price. I will pick you up from your hotel and bring you back after the walk.
- Master class and lunch at a Georgian house are optional and are paid for separately. The cost is calculated based on the number of dishes and is agreed upon at the time of booking the tour.
