What to expect
Andechs Monastery: stories and traditions
We will visit the ancient Benedictine monastery, which has stood on the Holy Mountain by the lake for 900 years. During a walk around the Andechs grounds, you will learn about the monastery's layout and its role in the life of medieval Europe, explore the farm buildings and Christian relics that have healed the sick for centuries. In the local church, we will not only admire the mural paintings and ancient sculptures, but also see the tomb of composer Carl Orff - the author of the famous "Carmina Burana". And from the summit of the Holy Mountain, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the blue lakes and Bavarian countryside.
Try the monastery beer!
Next, gastronomic delights await you at the monastery tavern under the historical vaults of the 15th century and a tasting of excellent local beer! For centuries, the monastery's servants have perfected the recipes of the frothy drink. With expertise, you will sample light Helles, dark Dunkel, wheat Weizen, monastery Special, and other varieties, while I share with you the brewing traditions of the monastery. For the monks, brewing beer is a form of service, and they approach it with special zeal.
