What to Expect
History and Traditions of Munich
You will learn legends associated with the city's origin, how Munich developed, and why it was ruled by the single Wittelsbach dynasty. You will also hear about local traditions (like the famous Oktoberfest) and the secrets of Bavarian costumes. So, on the tour program:
- Marienplatz - the central square of the city, a place for all holidays, rallies, and gatherings. I will tell you about the barrel-makers dance, knightly tournaments, and theatrical performances that regularly take place here. I will also show you the magnificent New Town Hall, which will amaze you with its exquisite neo-Gothic facade.
- Frauenkirche - the central cathedral of the city. You will learn the legend of its origin and understand why the locals still take it very seriously.
- Residence of the Bavarian Kings - you will hear about the life of the Wittelsbach dynasty and its family ties with Napoleon. You will see the luxurious collections housed in the vast museum and its treasury. During Christmas, a magical "village" with mulled wine, gifts, and other treats is hidden within the Residence walls. You will definitely visit it and immerse yourself in the fairytale holiday atmosphere.
- Max Joseph Square - I will show you the old post office building, where the first German stamp was issued, and the opera house. It is here that you will understand why Munich is called the "most northern city of Italy." I will tell an amazing story of how the famous King Ludwig I, the founder of Munich, lost not only his head but also his crown due to love.
- Maximilianstrasse - a delightful royal street, the "golden mile" of the city. You will learn the unusual history of its emergence and the secrets of the luxurious facades.
- Hofbräuhaus - the largest beer house in the world. Here I will talk about the beer traditions of Bavaria. You will understand why 6 million people come to Munich every year for the grand Oktoberfest celebration. You will also learn what the beer purity law entails, what a beer garden is, and what you cannot buy at the court brewery for any amount of money.
- Odeonsplatz and Ludwigstrasse - you will be amazed by the Hall of Bavarian Generals, woven like lace. Nearby, you will see the elegant Theatine Church, built thanks to a vow made by the Bavarian Elector and his beautiful Italian wife.
I really want you to feel the charm of the city on a friendly leisurely stroll and want to come again!
