About this experience
Visiting the beer capital of the world and not trying real Czech beer is an unforgivable oversight! This tour is created to prevent such a misunderstanding and will be interesting for professional beer enthusiasts as well as those who are just curious. You will dive into the amazing world of brewing, full of interesting stories, unexpected discoveries, and new vibrant sensations!
Program
We will visit 3 ancient breweries that have been operating since the 15th century. In each of them, you will taste unique types of beer and learn everything about the world-famous drink.
- Let's start our journey with a tour of the history of Prague brewing in the ancient brewery 'U Tri Ruzi', where beer has been brewed since the early 15th century. This brewery usually presents at least 5 unique types of beer, and I will gladly tell you about each of them and recommend which beer you should definitely try. You might be interested in classic Czech lagers, or you might crave aromatic smoked or rich monastery beer.
- At the brewery 'U Medvidku', we will observe the beer production process and see all the stages of turning water, malt, and hops into a foamy drink. This brewery is famous for its traditional approach to beer making, as it is the oldest brewery in Prague, opened in 1466. Tasting beer at this brewery, you will learn what beer is made of, how each ingredient affects the final product, and why real brewers adhere to the 1516 Reinheitsgebot law. The beer assortment here is limited to 3-4 types, but I would recommend trying 2 signature beers, the semi-dark unfiltered Old Gott and the famous X-Beer 33, recognized as the densest beer in the world, and choosing traditional sausages stewed in dark beer as a snack.
- To complete our tour, we will visit the brewery 'U Fleku,' one of the largest beer restaurants in the world. This establishment opened its doors in 1499, and, as in ancient times, it still brews the only type of beer — black Flek lager. It is said that this type of beer became the benchmark among dark lagers for many Czech brewers. That is why for over 500 years, only this type is served here. I would recommend trying a mug of this wonderful beer accompanied by traditional Czech songs and delicious sausages with cabbage. In the evenings, this place becomes especially lively and fun, as live music plays every night and the whole hall sings along with the musicians.
During our journey, I will not only provide recommendations on beer tasting and introduce you to traditional beer snacks but also tell you many interesting facts about beer. You will learn about the centuries-old history of beer from ancient times to the present, unravel the secrets of brewing mysticism, learn to understand the nuances of Czech beer etiquette, identify the differences between types and varieties of beer, and get acquainted with the most famous beers in Prague. After our tour, you will confidently declare: 'I drank real Czech beer, and I know what it is!'
