About this experience
Welcome to the capital of Bavaria! On the tour, I will try to take you beyond the usual associations of beer-sausages-BMW, telling you about the city's rich history, the wedding that has been celebrated for over two hundred years, Christmas markets, monks and lions depicted throughout Munich, and also about what they try to steal here at the end of April. There will be legends about the court jester and the deal with the devil, curious facts about the traditions of the world-famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall, vivid events from the life of the feudal Wittelsbach family who ruled Bavaria for more than seven centuries. In addition, I will help you navigate through the incredible assortment of goods at the richest food market in Europe and show you the places where, according to local beliefs, wishes come true!
What to expect
The heart of the city - Marienplatz
The walk will start in the busiest part of the city - at the central square Marienplatz. You will see the magnificent building of New Town Hall, meet street performers, learn about the origins of the Bavarian capital and curious facts, among which, for example, the unconventional purpose of the fountain. And near Marian Column we will talk about the symbolism of children figures and the main troubles of the Middle Ages.
Bavaria's main market
Next, you will visit one of the richest food markets in Europe - Viktualienmarkt, where you will immerse yourself in the world of gastronomic gifts from German lands. I will tell you about beer gardens and their unexpected traditions, Bavarian snacks, and various delicacies.
Historic beer restaurant
Also on the agenda is the world-famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall, which opened back in the late 16th century! You will learn about the emergence of the court brewery and the dark period when the establishment announced the creation of the Nazi party. You will also receive interesting information about the restaurant's anthem, its angel, visitors, and beer mugs.
Old Court - one of Munich's oldest buildings
The complex of buildings, dating back to the late 12th century, is one of the best places in the city to feel the spirit of the times. Despite the fact that most of the buildings have been rebuilt and recreated several times, here you can feel the ancient charm of Munich's history. Near Wittelsbach Castle, I will tell you about the ancient feudal family that ruled Bavaria for more than seven centuries, about Emperor Ludwig IV, and the period when the city became the center of the Roman Empire. I will also entertain you with a legend about the "monkey's oriel".
National Theater, Odeonplatz, and city symbol
From the Old Court, you will head to the opera house, where you will learn about the history associated with this building. We will also talk about two outstanding Richards - the prominent opera reformer Wagner and the expressionist Strauss, who presented several iconic works here. On Odeonplatz, we will discuss Emperor Ludwig I's imperial ambitions, architectural landmarks of different eras, and the tragically famous 'Beer Hall Putsch'. And in conclusion, you will admire the symbol of Munich and one of the most revered cathedrals in the country - Frauenkirche. I will draw your attention to the unusual Gothic design of the tallest building in the Old Town and tell a mystical legend related to the special arrangement of columns and windows.
