About this experience
During just one day, you will be able to enjoy alpine landscapes, visit stunning architectural landmarks, and feel the magical atmosphere of Bavarian villages! I invite you to take a trip to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles, Linderhof Palace and the ancient town of Füssen, Oberammergau village and the Ettal Monastery, and then visit an authentic private brewery. You choose what you want to see!
What to Expect
Fairy-tale castles and royal palaces are the hallmark of Bavaria! To compare the architecture and feel the spirit of past eras, I suggest including any combination of them in the trip. Depending on your wishes, the excursion route can include any of the objects listed below. The trip will take from 7 to 11 hours. Generally, in 7-8 hours you can visit 1-2 attractions, and in 9-11 hours - 3-4 objects. Write to me what interested you, and I will clarify the duration of the program!
Neuschwanstein Castle - the most popular project of the fairy-tale king Ludwig II. The snow-white outlines of the castle already remind of a mirage against the backdrop of the Alpine slopes! On the way to the castle, I will tell the story of the life of the 'Swan' king and his entourage. The interiors of Neuschwanstein will tell about knightly legends and German sagas, and from the panoramic bridge over the picturesque Pollat Gorge, you will look at the emerald waterfall and take the best photos of the castle.
Hohenschwangau Castle in neo-Gothic style has remained in its original form to this day. The castle's guests included the storyteller Hans Christian Andersen and the composer Richard Wagner. You will also find out what connected these people from the world of art and the kings of the Wittelsbach dynasty!
City of Füssen with narrow streets, small courtyards, baroque churches, and the beautiful monastery building will captivate lovers of old German towns! Here time has held its breath! You will find out why emperors loved the city, what was traded at the local market in the olden days, and in the interiors of the atmospheric pharmacy, we will talk about medicinal remedies of the past.
Linderhof Palace - a luxurious miniature Baroque palace surrounded by a beautiful and unusual park. One of the curiosities of Linderhof is the artificial Venus grotto, which was a special platform for Wagner's opera performances, the audience of which was the king himself.
Tour of a village brewery with tasting will definitely appeal to beer connoisseurs! You will see with your own eyes all the stages of making the most popular drink in Bavaria, hear from the brewer himself about the secrets and recipes of different varieties, and taste unfiltered 'live' beer straight from the beer tanks!
Authentic village of Oberammergau - a village of woodcarvers, painted fairytale houses like 'Little Red Riding Hood,' 'Grey Wolf,' 'Cinderella,' and the Passion Play Theater with a three-hundred-year history. By visiting Oberammergau, you will find out why some villagers grow hair and beards for years, what 'Luftlmalerei' is, and where to see wall clocks with water wheels.
Wieskirche Church, surrounded by legends, owes its magnificent decoration to court architect and artist Dominikus Zimmermann. Wieskirche is visited by about 1 million people annually! Let's admire the surrounding pastoral landscapes and the soothingly airy interiors of this rococo style gem.
Active Benedictine Ettal Monastery impresses with its history of ups and downs and careful preservation of traditions. You will visit the Ettal area, enter the monastery church, learn about the lives of today's monks. You will hear about the scandalous legal proceedings of the Ettal Monastery and its successful commercial activities. And if you wish, we will visit a local cheese dairy.
During an eventful excursion day, we will definitely choose a restaurant for a memorable lunch: by the Austrian lake (yes, you can even visit Austria!), where you will be offered to taste freshly caught fish. Or in a rural guesthouse that has been run by one Bavarian family for centuries, and alongside traditional schnitzels, they offer venison dishes and the original beef 'Böfflamott.' Or you can enjoy a meal and monastery beer at the 'Ettal' monastery restaurant.
