What to expect
What do the Portuguese eat?
Portuguese cuisine will unfold before you in all its glory: we will talk about local fabulous cheeses, why salted cod is considered the national fish, and why pastel de nata is among the top 10 best desserts in the world. You will also learn about Portuguese gastronomic habits: what kind of coffee locals prefer, what is cooked for festive tables, and eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will not overlook port wine: I will tell you about the history of the traditional fortified wine, whose homeland is Porto.
Main flavors and aromas of Portugal!
Our gastronomic tour will start with a visit to a traditional store, where you will appreciate the perfect combination of cheese and marmalade, and at the same time learn how quince is related to marmalade and what the British have to do with it. All Portuguese people are big sweet tooths, so the next stop on the walk will be tasting the main local dessert – pastel de nata pastries – with a cup of aromatic coffee. Then we will have a hearty snack with a traditional sandwich and try the famous “green wine”, and then in a cozy cafe we will enjoy a popular Porto snack, without which no family feast can do without. We will also taste Portuguese presunto with black bread in a traditional tasca – you will not regret trying such a combination! And we will finish our leisurely walk with a tasting of Tawny port wine in a wine bar in the city center.
Our route will pass through the old quarters of Porto, so you will not only taste local dishes and wine, but also learn about the city's history, examining its key attractions.
