And at the end, I will share with you an insider list of verified restaurants in the city.
What to Expect
Bacalhau and 100-year-old Market
We will start with traditional shops where you will get acquainted with Portuguese delicacies, learn about bacalhau (cod fish), and understand the specifics of local cheeses and sausages.
You will visit a market that has been operating for over 100 years. I will talk about fish and seafood, and you will have the option to try Portuguese oysters and cheese.
Confectionery and Tasca
We will continue the tour through a confectionery, where the most delicious pastries (pastries with custard cream) are baked. On the main shopping street of the city, you will learn the history of Porto's oldest cafe.
Then we will stop by a traditional tasca (family restaurant) where you will taste presunto (Portuguese ham) and cod pastries. And I will explain what influences the quality of dried meat.
Port Wine or Chocolate Tasting
In the tasting room, you will learn about the variety of styles and aromas of port wine, the main winemaking regions of the country, and also how to properly drink and store the drink. Not many people know that port wine can be white dry and even pink!
If you don't drink fortified wine, then we will visit a cozy shop with handcrafted chocolate produced in Porto. Optionally, you can buy chocolate and appreciate the richness of its flavor.
During the tour, I will talk about Portuguese cuisine in general, what and where you should try, and at the end, I will provide a list of verified restaurants.
