About this experience
Glorious Porto rightly bears its abbreviated name from the country where it is located. The ancestor of legendary yellow trams and port wine, it not only embodies all the features of Portugal, but also preserves something unique: like the most beautiful bookshop in Europe! I will introduce you to the most interesting places and through my stories, I will try to convey the love for romantic Porto.
What awaits you
Centuries-old bookshop, treasure station and other symbols of Porto
To give you a harmonious picture of the city, I will show you its main attractions, share important chronicles and spice up the stories with fascinating facts about what sets Porto apart from its Portuguese city brothers. Our program includes the following locations:
- Freedom Square (Praça da Liberdade), surrounded by impressive buildings. You will enjoy the beauty and monumentality of the architecture and learn about the events that gave the square its name.
- A century-old and the most beautiful bookshop in Europe Lello Bookstore (Lello) - a place that will especially appeal to art and literature connoisseurs, as well as lovers of aesthetics in all its manifestations.
- Clérigos Church Bell Tower (Clérigos), which can be seen from any point in Porto, as it is the tallest tower in the city. I will reveal why its appearance resembles Tuscan bell towers, and then we will climb to the top to embrace Porto from edge to edge.
- São Bento Railway Station (São Bento), which besides its architectural beauty, impresses with its incredible tile design. Interestingly, the azulejos here serve not only an aesthetic function but also an enlightening one - they illustrate important episodes in the history of Portugal, which I will help you decipher.
- Porto Cathedral (Sé Catedral), a place steeped in ancient history. This sanctuary has been guarding Porto since the 12th century and like nothing else gives a sense of the venerable age of this city.
Next, we will take a walk through narrow alleys to Ribeira Riverside (Ribeira), making a couple of stops along the way to admire the city's panorama from viewpoints, as well as to taste local delicacies such as bacalhau, local prosciutto, and of course, pastel de nata.
For the love of Port Wine
Upon request, I will happily organize a mini-tour for you in a wine cellar, where locals make port wine according to their special recipe. A connoisseur of the drink will share the history of fortified wine and reveal some secrets of its consumption, and you will taste several types of port wine - and may come out of the cellar as true connoisseurs of the wonderful grape traditions of this country :)
