Chronicle of Eras at the Crossroads of Empires
About this experience
You are in for 4 intense hours immersing yourself in the history of Tbilisi, a city that, despite numerous conquests, rose from the ashes, absorbing the best from different cultures. During the walk, history will come to life in the winding streets of the Old Town, by the mighty walls of Narikala Fortress, in the oldest district of Sulfur Baths. Through the names of Georgian rulers, residents, and guests of the city, colorful traditions, and customs, you will gain a complete understanding of Tbilisi's architectural, historical, and cultural heritage and feel its uniqueness.
What to Expect
Kings and Conquerors of Tbilisi
The tour of the city logically begins at the monument to its founder - King Vakhtang Gorgasali, at the towering Metekhi Church. You will enjoy the panorama of the Old Town and learn about the military feats of the commander. I will also talk about other Georgian rulers, about conquests and conquerors of Tbilisi: Tamerlane, Jelal-ed-Din, dependence on Iran. As a result, such a geopolitical and historical analysis will help you understand the essence of each era, learn interesting facts, and feel the atmosphere of the time.
Landmarks and Their Histories Through the Ages
In the Sulfur Baths district, where the history of the capital began, you will be transported back to the 17th century when Persia's fashion for luxury swept over Georgia, admire the mosaic vaults of the baths, and learn about their benefits. Through the alleys that have retained features of medieval architecture with ivans (balconies), you will reach the Fig Gorge. You will encounter former craft rows of the Great Silk Road and a caravan saray, the ancient Sioni Cathedral where Griboedov married Princess Nino Chavchavadze, and the modern Peace Bridge, which still sparks debates. You will ascend to Narikala Fortress via a cable car, whose preserved walls will tell you about all its trials.
Residents and Guests of Tbilisi
Old winding streets will come alive with colorful stories about Tbilisi residents and guests: we will talk about Sergo Parajanov and Buba Kikabidze, about Griboedov's life in Georgia, about Sharden, Pushkin, Dumas, Vysotsky. Additionally, I will share urban traditions passed down through generations and talk about the lifestyle inherent to a true Tbilisian. Georgian feasts, famous toasts, bright quotes - you will encounter a real kaleidoscope of stories.
At the end of the tour, you will visit a wine tasting: learn about the most popular wines, but also try rare varieties and compare Georgian wine-making technology with European.

Tickets for the cable car to Narikala Fortress are not included in the price (2.5 lari + guide's ticket).
