About this experience
Kakheti - a beautiful region interesting to both wine connoisseurs and lovers of historical heritage. This tour route is specially designed for those who have not yet determined their preferences or who want to get a general idea of the beautiful Georgian land, which preserves ancient winemaking traditions and rich history in one day.
What to expect
Telavi - the capital of Kakheti since the 11th century
The road to Telavi will pass through one of the most picturesque places in Kakheti - the Gombori Range, with stops near the 4-5th century Ujarma fortress and the 11th-century Alaverdi Cathedral. In the ancient city of Telavi, founded in the 7th century, you will see the only royal palace preserved in the entire territory of Georgia. And in the central park of the city, you will be treated to a stunning view of the Alazani Valley.
Wine history of Kakheti
The road from Telavi to Gurjaani is a journey through the iconic villages of Vazisubani, Mukuzani, Akhasheni, where you will get acquainted with legendary local wines and architecture from the 5-9th centuries. In the village of Zegaani, you will see the oldest chateau in Georgia. This place, like the Tsinandali Estate, is also a creation of Prince A. Chavchavadze. In the village of Velistsikhe, besides several ancient temples, there is an interesting Numisi Wine Museum that you can visit. The city of Gurjaani is interesting because in its center there are active mud volcanoes and the country's only double-domed church. And from the 8th-century Kvetera Church, you will have an amazing view of the district's surroundings.
Sighnaghi. A touch of fairy tale
The main value of this city is the magical views from the height of the fortress wall over the Alazani Valley. The small Sighnaghi does not have a mighty history, as it was founded only in the 18th century. However, it is always pleasant to be here, strolling along quiet cobblestone streets and admiring the neat houses with tiled roofs. Many guests of Kakheti definitely come here for this romantic atmosphere.
