About this experience
Real Roman life flows away from the center. Where Italian nature dazzles with colors, buffalo mozzarella is prepared and vineyards grow. We will visit a medieval castle, on the winery of which wine has been produced for 400 years - you will taste it and appreciate local dishes made from seasonal products. And then we will head to the farm for Italians' favorite cheese.
What to expect
Ancient papal residence
In half an hour's drive from Rome, we will be greeted by a 13th-century castle - a former residence of famous papal families. The castle is not only a witness to ancient history, which we will delve into a little, but also a place where agriculture thrives. Only organic farming is practiced here: no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used. That's why the taste of local wines is so exquisite.
Wine and pasta
The tasting will take place in a medieval wine cellar located inside a tuff hill. The vineyards that produce local wine grow on the hills of the Roman coast, where the Mediterranean mild climate and fertile soil cultivate clusters of red grape varieties (Cesabese, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot, and Syrah) and white ones (Fiano, Chardonnay, Vermentino, Trebbiano, and Malvasia).
- Accompanied by a professional sommelier, you will explore the collection of local wines
- You will learn about Roman winemaking culture and understand the basic principles of pairing wine and food.
- You will taste the best wines from the collection - two red and two white varieties
- Inside the castle, you will visit a gastronomic establishment serving dishes made from seasonal products from local farms. You will have lunch with amazing local pasta (or another traditional dish), drink coffee with sweets.
Buffalo mozzarella
On the way back to Rome, we will visit a farm producing authentic buffalo mozzarella.
- You will see pedigree water buffaloes, whose milk is used to make the cheese and yogurt beloved by Italians, the amazing taste of which is far from store-bought.
- You will learn about the virtues for which mozzarella is so revered in Italy and why its production was opened in this place.
- If desired, you can buy organic products at the farm's shop.
Organizational details
- All-inclusive price includes: transfer in a comfortable Mercedes Class A 180 CDI car, guide services, visit to the castle and farm, tasting, wine snacks, and lunch.
- You can arrange a tour for a larger number of participants (up to 8 people) - extra charge of 100€ per person
- Timing: the trip from Rome will take 30-40 minutes, we will spend 1.5-2 hours at the winery and about 20 minutes at the farm
