About this experience
The basis of this journey combines my two main passions: Italian cuisine and Roman history. I will amaze you with forgotten legends and intriguing facts. I will tell you about the town of Frascati, Roman castles, and Rome itself - stories you won't find in guidebooks! I will help you taste the best wines, introduce you to the tradition of fraschette, and take you to the slope where real devilry happens.
What to Expect
Fraschette in Frascati
We will head to the historic center of Frascati and follow the ancient tradition of fraschette, where we will purchase typical artisanal products and drinks (strawberry liqueurs, desserts, bread, cheeses) from local shops along the way, and then enter a cellar called fraschetta to taste everything we bought. The owner of the fraschetta will welcome us and offer homemade wine from his vineyard.
Abbey, Castle, and Observatory
We will visit the only continuously operating Byzantine rite monastery in Italy, founded by Saint Nilus of Rossano in the town of Grottaferrata. Then we will stop by Gandolfo Castle - the summer residence of the Roman popes. We will see the Vatican Observatory and have the opportunity to swim in a volcanic lake nearby.
Mystical Descent on the Road to Ariccia
We will head to Ariccia and pass by a mysterious slope, the phenomenon of which is studied by scientists from around the world. In this place, something incredible happens: everything that stands on the ground starts moving upwards instead of descending down the slope! That's why the slope is called by various mystical names, such as 'Ascent with Ghosts' or 'Devil's Ascent'.
Wine Tasting
Upon your request, we will visit a winery where you will walk through the vineyard and taste 3 types of local wine: white, rosé, and red. The tasting will be accompanied by snacks: cheeses, bruschettas with homemade olive oil, traditional dessert, and other delicacies.
Organizational Details
The excursion takes place in a comfortable Renault Laguna SW car.
