About this experience
I will show you all the iconic squares, churches, and monuments of the historic center. I will take you through colorfully residential neighborhoods, tell stories heard from locals, and help you understand the Portuguese soul.
What to Expect
Main in Porto and About It
You will visit the city's symbol - the Clérigos Church - and be impressed by its brilliant architecture. You will visit the famous bookstore with an impressive vintage staircase and hear how it is connected to Harry Potter. You will see the ancient Carmo and Carmelitas churches and learn why the narrowest building in the world is located between them. Next, head to the 18th-century Freedom Square and discover which respected king's monument is at its center. I will also show you the St. Benedict's railway station, which amazes with splendid azulejo panels.
Cathedral and Porto View from Above
You will encounter the oldest Romanesque monument in Porto - the 11th-century Cathedral - and the panorama of the entire center from a picturesque hill. You will also see the square with the monument to Henry the Navigator and learn why the opinions of locals about him vary greatly. From the square, you will have a view of the stock exchange and St. Francis Church, whose history and legends I will definitely tell you about.
Ribeira, Wine Cellar, and Port Wine Tasting
You will stroll along Ribeira, the 14th-century waterfront, and see the city's "business card" - the Dom Luis I Bridge. Afterwards, you will cross to the other side of the Douro River - to Vila Nova de Gaia, known worldwide as the birthplace of Portuguese port wine. Here, you will visit wine cellars and learn about the origin and traditions of the famous drink. Finally, you will be able to taste several categories of wines and understand their differences.
