About this experience
You will walk along medieval winding streets where antiquity and modernity intertwine, rich cultural heritage and mysterious legends. I will introduce you to the main milestones in the history of Vilnius and show you its main attractions: the gates of Ausros, the Church of St. Casimir, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, and much more. And you will also see modern art on Literatu Street, hear the legend of the Cheese of Džiugas, and make a wish on the 'Miracle' tile!
What to expect
Vilnius through the ages
At the very beginning, I will tell you a beautiful legend about the founding of the Lithuanian capital. After that, we will explore the historical center. Vilnius Old Town is one of the largest and most beautiful in Eastern Europe, it will definitely impress you with its originality, magnificent architectural and cultural monuments, and cozy corners. So, the excursion program includes:
- Gates of Ausros (Dawn) - one of the main symbols of Vilnius. You will see a miraculous icon located in a wooden chapel right above the gates.
- Church of the Holy Spirit - the most famous church in the city, where the incorruptible relics of St. Anthony, John, and Eustatius rest. You will learn why it is visited not only by Orthodox but also by Catholics.
- Town Hall - the place where the vibrant city life has always concentrated, about which I will gladly tell you.
- Church of St. Casimir - a much-suffering temple that will impress you with its unusual crown-shaped dome. Here you will hear interesting facts about Lithuania's patron saint, Prince Casimir.
- Jewish Quarter - I will tell you its complex history and show you the most unusual places.
- Vilnius University - one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. You will like its colorful ensemble, where various architectural styles intertwine.
- Presidential Palace - a majestic building in the neoclassical style with a very rich and interesting history that you will definitely hear.
- Church of St. Paraskeva (Friday) - it is here that Tsar Peter I baptized Pushkin's great-grandfather, Hannibal.
- Literatu Street - you will see that there is a place for modern art in the medieval Old Town.
- Church of St. Francis and St. Bernardine and Church of St. Anne - graceful Gothic masterpieces. I will tell you legends about the construction of the churches and Napoleon's admiration.
- Cathedral and Chapel of St. Casimir - you will see the country's main Catholic cathedral, which hides one of the gems of Vilnius Baroque - the chapel of St. Casimir.
