About this experience
Join me for not just a gastronomic walk, but a series of culinary revelations! We will discuss the main Tuscan delicacies, typical appetizers, and main dishes. Street food with a 700-year history and the concept of 'cucina povera'. And we will delve deeper into the structure of Italian society, the winemaking traditions of the region, and the mentality of the Florentines. When in Tuscany, be prepared to become a bit of a gourmet and taste the main delicacies!
What to Expect
Florentine Market Delights
Get acquainted with Tuscan gastronomy starting with the appetizing rows of the central market. I will explain what products form the basis of local cuisine, the famous Florentine Chianina steaks, and how to choose wild boar sausage, prosciutto, Tuscan salami, and finocchiona. While you sample these meaty appetizers alongside sheep cheeses, over a glass of red wine I will talk about the 5 zones of Tuscany and the differences in their cuisine.
Old Recipes and Innovations
Of course, we will also talk about specific dishes. For example, you will learn the history of Cacciucco soup, which appeared in Tuscan gastronomy thanks to a fisherman's widow, and the special tuna from Chianti. I will talk about the preferences of those who were called 'popolo minuto' in medieval Italy, and you will be able to choose your favorite combination of flavors of Florentine bruschetta: from traditional with sun-dried tomatoes to exquisite ones from chefs.
Medieval Fast Food and Seasonal Delicacies
In the Medici quarter, you will find the most unusual: not far from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, we will visit a place where medieval snacks are sold. This street food has been loved by the Florentines for the past 700 years — you will learn about its social role and compare ancient dishes with familiar modern ones. And then we will head to the best gelateria in the city, where you will choose a seasonal dessert.
