About this experience
On this tour, Florence will appear before you as a vibrant city, not just a 'museum with museums'. You will visit the city market, learn how ordinary Florentines live, try local fast food, explore Florentine street art, discover the best gelaterias and coffee shops while admiring the city's key attractions. And most importantly - you will feel 'at home' on the streets of Florence!
What to Expect
See the city from the inside
The historical center of Florence is not difficult to explore in 2 hours, so on the tour, you will see the key sights of the city, but the main goal will be the streets frequented by ordinary Florentines. Discovering Florence, you will:
- Visit a place in the city called 'Death to Husbands' and understand what and how things are done there.
- See numerous home altars with images of the Virgin Mary and learn who and why makes offerings there.
- Appreciate the Florentine street art made with pastels right on the sidewalk - it disappears and reappears under the skillful hands of street artists every day.
- Stumble upon a couple of shops not only with beautiful clothing collections, but also with frescoes and icons from the 15th century.
- Examine the grand staircase in one of the residential buildings and understand the uniqueness of local apartments, why it's better for everyone visiting Florence to rent an apartment rather than a hotel, and what to pay attention to when moving into an apartment in the Blooming City and Italy in general. Along the way, you will learn various city tricks, surprising for medieval Florence, and see where the lines of the Florentine tram are hidden.
Taste Florence
We'll stop by the central market: where locals shop and indulge in Tuscan delicacies in a casual atmosphere. Visit a beautiful and expensive café overlooking the Duomo, where you can have coffee for just 1 euro. I'll tell you where to find shops with real affordable Italian food and wine that locals buy. You'll discover drinking fountains with sparkling water, find the locals' beloved gelateria and a snack bar with famous Florentine sandwiches, where the queue is longer than at the Uffizi Gallery. You'll see a local Chinatown where you can have a snack even during lunch break when most city restaurants are closed, as well as a couple of secret restaurants that will gladly treat you to dinner even at 5 pm.
Everyday Life of the Florentines
We'll talk about authentic everyday Florence, a life that goes beyond museums alone. I'll tell you what time Italians wake up and why they drink coffee at the bar counter, as in movies. I'll reveal the cost of living in Florence, how the medieval city solves parking problems, and what nuances to consider when dining in local restaurants. After our tour, you'll know exactly where to taste real Florentine street food, where to go for the freshest and tastiest products, and what defines the specifics of the local way of life.
During our tour of the main attractions, we'll see the city's main cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), the bustling and colorful Republic Square (Piazza della Repubblica), and the city's most important square (Piazza della Signoria), rich in numerous sculptures, the most famous of which are Michelangelo's 'David' and Benvenuto Cellini's 'Perseus.' However, most of the tour will take place on the winding streets and power spots.
