About this experience
Aswan will impress you with ancient architecture, silence, idyllic views of the Nile, the 19th-century Botanical Garden, and the grand dam designed by Soviet engineers. I will tell you how the city grew and developed, what events took place in it over the centuries, and what it lives on today. I will share local traditions and help you discover Egypt in a new way.
What to Expect
Unexplored Aswan
You will visit all the main attractions of the city and touch its centuries-old history. The excursion program includes:
- Temple of Goddess Isis on Philae Island - the oldest functioning temple in Egypt. You will appreciate the architecture of the Ptolemaic era and find an image of one of the kings on the temple walls. You will also enjoy breathtaking views of the Nile.
- Aswan Dam - an engineering marvel created by Soviet craftsmen in the 1960s. I will tell you how the dam allowed the country to switch to year-round irrigation and what challenges its construction faced.
- Unfinished Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut - one of the most mysterious objects that have come down to us from ancient civilizations. You will see a giant obelisk weighing over 1000 tons and hear versions of its origin.
- Botanical Garden - we will visit the ancient garden on Kitchener Island, famous for its rich collection of tropical plants from around the world.
