About this experience
I will show you the key attractions of Tokyo and tell you about them as a Tokyoite would: with love, but not hiding the flaws. You will learn about the secrets hidden behind the facades of ancient buildings. Hear about the pivotal moments in Tokyo's history and Japan's social system. Visit Tokyo's gastronomic Mecca and the electronic heart of the city - Akihabara district.
What to expect
- Shibuya Crossing. We will pass by the legendary Hachiko monument - a Japanese symbol of loyalty and friendship. We will stand at the world-famous intersection of seven roads, where more than 2500 people pass in 2 minutes. You will also have the opportunity to try Japanese delicacies sold only in this area.
- Meiji Jingu Shrine in Yoyogi Park - the most significant Shinto shrine in Tokyo. I will introduce you to Japanese shrine architecture and tell you about the emperor after whom the shrine is named. You will hear about the most dramatic events in Japan's history.
- Kappabashi-dori Avenue, which is Tokyo's Mecca for everything related to cuisine. We will discuss Japanese eating habits and the secrets of their longevity.
- Asakusa Buddhist temple complex. You will pass through the Thunder Gate, explore the architecture of the oldest Tokyo temple Sensō-ji, and hear the legend of its foundation. I will talk about the times when Tokyo was known as Edo, describe the social class system in ancient Japan, and the differences in their ways of life.
- Nakamise-dori Shopping Street. Just like centuries ago, here you can buy traditional Japanese souvenirs and sweets. For lunch, we will stop at one of the restaurants in the Shin Nakamise-dori passage.
- Akihabara District - the electronic heart of the city. After World War II, it was a major trading center and at the same time a black market for electronics. I will explain the differences between today's Akihabara and the post-war period, and show its most interesting locations.
