Through the Ages of the Eternal City
About this experience
As a person who lived for several years right by Piazza Navona, I will show you the city as the Romans themselves know it. With me, you will see the most beautiful places and the most popular attractions of the historical center of Rome, as well as wander through secret alleys, learn about the destinies of the inhabitants of the Eternal City from different times - from emperors to mafiosi and courtesans. The discovery will be the Roman cuisine, the delight of meeting with ancient and baroque architecture, and human stories will complement the image of Rome with the spark of life.
What to Expect
Rome about Rome
You will read the history of the city from its outlines, as from the pages of an exciting novel. You will not only see everything that Rome is famous for - palaces, churches, fountains, and architectural monuments, but also look at the Eternal City as a place of events of the past and present. At the Colosseum, you will hear about Nero's Golden House and who actually set fire to Rome. You will find out where Galileo Galilei, according to tradition, uttered the words during the trial: 'And yet it moves!'. I will show you the temple of all gods Pantheon and Piazza Rotonda, take you to the Capitoline Hill, from where you will look at the legendary Roman Forum. And you can easily imagine how much has happened in Rome over the centuries.
Places and People
On Piazza Venezia, we will talk about the Venetian Republic and the unification of Italy, Napoleon and Mussolini. Near one of the churches, we will remember how Count Cagliostro renounced his delusions. At Piazza Navona, you will 'chat' with speaking statues and masterpieces by Bernini and Borromini, and I will tell you about the quarrel between the two geniuses. I will show you the palace of the Pamphili aristocrats, talk about good and bad emperors, the Italian mafia on the city streets, and the famous donna - the female pope who 'ruled' the Vatican. On one of the seven famous Roman hills, we will enjoy a charming view of the city, and near the ancient cafe Greco, at the Spanish Steps, you will hear who used to have breakfast there and what gastronomic habits are typical of the Romans. You will understand where the word 'pasquino' came from, take magnificent photos, and realize that calling it anything other than Eternal Rome is impossible.
