Getting Personal with Rome: Landmarks and Hidden Gems
About this experience
In 4 hours, we will dare to accomplish a challenging yet incredibly enticing task: to get closer to understanding the Eternal City! Through popular and lesser-known paths, you will approach iconic monuments, learn about key events and personalities in Rome's history, taste the best gelato in the city, and immerse yourself in the dolce vita atmosphere!
What to Expect
Going back to the roots
Let's start where Rome was born. I will tell you about the first king and the amazing events that preceded the rise of the future huge empire. You might be surprised to meet 'acquaintances' from Greece. Explore the ancient ruins of the forums and touch the history of the monumental beauty of the Colosseum. Learn about the significant era of the republic, the spears of the god of war Mars, hear stories about legendary emperors, see where Nero watched the famous fire, and study the symbolism of another Roman landmark - the SPQR abbreviation.
Other iconic places essential to Rome
On the most famous of the seven hills of Rome - the Capitoline Hill - I will talk about pagan and Christian monuments, the architecture of the great Michelangelo, and the world's first public museum. Later, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the treasure trove of coins at the Trevi Fountain. You will also admire the ancient temple of all gods, the majestic and serene Pantheon. Visit the 'most important of all the important and most central of all the central' Piazza Navona, where you will learn about its unusual shape, famous fountains, and enjoy the 'dolce vita' atmosphere there. Then, take a walk through the Field of Mars and reach the People's Square, experiencing a tour through almost 3000 years of the history of the Eternal City, from its first king to its people.
Lesser-known gems of Rome
In addition to the main checkpoints, you will visit the Circus Maximus, the largest chariot racing stadium of Ancient Rome. You will visit Piazza Venezia with its white Altar of the Fatherland and Mussolini's balcony. See the Temple of Hadrian and learn the 'secret' of the impregnable Castel Sant'Angelo. Also included is the colossal Augustus Mausoleum, the ancient altar of peace Ara Pacis, and other lesser-known but interesting historical monuments, including one of Rome's talking statues.
Friendly approach and Roman life hacks
Walking with me is always at a comfortable pace and informal. Of course, Rome is not a city you can get to know in a day, but I have tried to gather the brightest, most interesting, and necessary things for a first acquaintance with the Eternal City in the program. Additionally, I will gladly advise you on how to plan your further days, what else is worth visiting, where to find the best gelato, coffee, and tiramisu in the world, where you can eat deliciously and economically in the center. I will also reveal a couple of secret spots. And if after the walk you fall in love with Rome as much as I do - my mission is accomplished!
Who is this tour for
For those who are in Rome for the first time and for those who have already met it but want to know it better. Even if you have already seen the main must-see places but do not know enough about them, you will look at them with new eyes, learning a lot of new things!
Organizational Details
- When booking, I recommend choosing the time: 9:30 - for a morning and 16:00 - for an evening tour. This is optimal to avoid excessive sun and the Italian siesta.
- No additional expenses are expected, except for personal expenses on food, etc.

Thank you very much for the tour, taking into account the time constraints in Rome, as well as for being flexible and slightly changing the route

Interesting route, even though it was on foot, we covered the main attractions of Rome and saw a couple of places where there were not so many tourists. Asyl is a knowledgeable and friendly guide, and very patient because we wanted to take pictures of everything 😂
