About this experience
To better understand the history of Egypt and its architecture, we suggest you visit three palaces: Manial, Abdin, and Albaron. Each of them has its own character. You will see European furniture, a mix of Western and Eastern features, and even an exterior reminiscent of a Hindu temple. We will tell you how each palace appeared and also take photos of you.
What to expect
Palace Albaron. This extraordinary building is reminiscent of India. This is because its owner, a Belgian engineer, loved to travel and was inspired by different cultures. You will learn how he ended up in Egypt, what business he was doing here, and what incredible project he conceived in the desert. You will also visit numerous halls of the palace.
Palace Abdin. The most famous Egyptian palace, the residence of the president and a museum. It embodies the superiority and wealth of the Egyptian monarchy (1811-1952).
Palace Manial. Located on Roda Island, on the Nile River. Its style is unique: it combines European modern and rococo styles, as well as traditional styles of Islamic architecture, including Ottoman, Mauritanian, and others. You will walk around its huge territory with gardens, appreciate the unique interiors (and a silver bed weighing 800 tons!), and learn more about the prince who built it.
In addition to the palaces, you will see the European part of Cairo - the so-called hediv Cairo - from the car window. And we will tell you why in the 19th century the gazes of the richest people turned to Egypt and they began to come here, build houses and do business.
