About this experience
The image of Cairo is inseparable from the pyramids of Giza, but its history is much more layered and contrasting than one can imagine. To uncover the different facets of the city, we will transport ourselves to the time of pharaohs at the Museum of Mummies. Then we will head to the Coptic Quarter, where the sacred sites of Christians, Muslims, and Jews coexist. And to conclude, we will sail on the Nile River, connecting all epochs of Egypt.
What to Expect
Manial Palace
The palace turned museum is located on the eastern part of Roda Island. The architecture of the palace combines Ottoman, Syrian, Persian, and Mauritanian styles. Inside, we will admire the luxurious halls and assess an extensive collection of Eastern and European art objects.
Museum of Mummies and Ancient Egyptian Artifacts
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization recently opened its doors to visitors but has already become a must-visit place in Cairo. Here on the lower floor, you will encounter around 60 mummies and sarcophagi of legendary pharaohs, queens, and their entourages. And on the upper floor, you will get acquainted with artifacts ranging from the time of pharaohs to the flourishing of Christianity and Islam in Egypt.
Coptic Quarter: Cairo's 'Little Jerusalem'
In the next part of the tour, we will explore an area of Cairo where three religions - Christianity, Islam, and Judaism - coexist harmoniously. Here we will find traces of Roman presence, as well as temples built on the ruins of ancient Babylon. We will visit a synagogue and the first mosque in Africa, built in the 7th century. You will see the amazing Hanging Church, the Monastery of St. George, and the Church of St. Paul with the cave where, according to legend, the Holy Family sought refuge. And of course, you will hear the history of the Coptic Quarter, appreciate its strategic importance, and its special role in the life of Ancient Egypt.
As a conclusion to the tour, we can take a half-hour boat ride on the Nile River.
