About this experience
Cairo is the epicenter of Egyptian history. I will introduce you to its rich heritage and show the contrasts of the capital: from the treasures of the National Museum and magnificent mosques to goods at the Eastern Market and the City of Garbage Collectors. You will hear about the past and present life of Cairo, uncover its secrets, and learn about its customs and local rules.
What to Expect
The program is flexible - we will visit exactly those locations that interest you and spend as much time on them as you wish. What you can see on the tour:
Famous Pyramids of Giza - here words are unnecessary, see for yourself! You will meet the wise Sphinx and delve into the mysteries of the grand structures. You will hear about the kings and wise men who visited these places and understand what challenges archaeologists are facing today.
Egyptian Museum. 100 halls, 15,000 exhibits - we will stop at the most intriguing, most of which are related to Ramses. I will explain how to correctly pronounce his name and reveal the secret of his popularity among the Egyptian people.
Saladin's Citadel - a fortress built by the order of the 'conqueror of the Crusaders.' We will talk about what made Saladin famous, about the monumental construction, admire the decoration and architecture of the mosques.
Religious Complex of Old Cairo. Here three main religions of the world intersect - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. You will get to know them through the example of temple structures: the ancient mosque of Amr ibn al-As, the Coptic churches of Abu Serga and the Hanging Church of St. Mary, the synagogue, and the Orthodox Church of St. George.
Eastern Bazaar, the largest in Africa. You will wander through its labyrinths, see handmade items, and relax in the ancient cafe 'El Fishawi'.
City of Garbage Collectors and Poor Quarters. If desired, we can go to these hard-to-reach areas - you can confidently walk through their alleys with me. We will visit the Muslim cemetery and the monastery of St. Simeon the Shoemaker, hewn in the rock.
River Cruise on the Nile. You can also take an evening ride on an individual motorboat and enjoy the views of the bank dotted with lights. Or enjoy a two-hour cruise on a large ship: dinner and a folklore program with Egyptian dances await you.
On Fridays, we can visit the animal market or the camel market, where there are no tourists - another place to see the real life of Cairo!
Cairo - Past and Present
Impressive locations and views will be complemented by stories about the history and modern life of the city and the country. You will understand why Cairo became the fourth capital of Egypt and hear about the previous ones. In detail, you will learn about the kings mentioned in school textbooks. About the geography and current economy, about the work and life of ordinary people, their cuisine and traditions. We will also discuss how women dress in our country, how families are organized. And of course, I will share tips for leisure and independent study of Egypt.
