Three Faces of Tbilisi - Group Walking Tour with Historian Guide
About this experience
Tbilisi holds a thousand and one stories. Let us tell them to you! You will travel through three eras: visit pre-revolution aristocratic houses. Remember the USSR and find out where the famous lemonades 'Vody Lagidze' are produced. See the Old Town from the inside and from the deck of a boat. Between eras, we will move through Tiflis courtyards, well houses, and hidden secret museums.
What to Expect
Era 1. Soviet Period
Let's start our journey into the past with a visit to the Parliament Palace, where the Alexander Nevsky Military Cathedral used to be. Continue the tour on Rustaveli Avenue and head to Freedom Square. You will:
- See the magnificent Vorontsov Palace, preserving the memory of the Caucasus Revolution, and learn its history not found in textbooks or tourist sites.
- Observe the famous Shota Rustaveli Theatre
- Discover the location of Kashveti Church and hear its legend
- Explore Freedom Square - one of the most important historical and cultural places in Georgia, and hear its legends and stories
- Learn where to taste the most delicious lemonades - a must-have at Georgian feasts, and where to eat those donuts based on a unique Georgian recipe that dates back to the USSR
Era 2. Pre-Revolutionary Period
Travel back to the 19th century, where you will encounter the Sololaki district - the cradle of Renaissance Tbilisi. You will:
- Examine houses belonging to merchants and aristocrats, not only from the outside but also from the inside, a privilege granted to few! Luckily, we have door codes.
- Visit well houses hiding museums of brandy, wine, and tea
- Discover the location of the world's only museum of lead soldiers
- Stroll through Tiflis courtyards (far superior to any Italian ones!) and streets named after famous personalities. You will learn so many facts about them that you won't hear in school.
Era 3. Antiquity
You will visit Vakhtang Gorgasali Square, better known as Meidan. This place has always been a hub for craftsmen and traders. You will:
- Hear stories of many lives: from ordinary people to famous oligarchs
- Visit the Meidan Bazaar with a knowledgeable person at your side - a comfortable shopping experience!
- See Metekhi Church, where you will learn the legend of Vakhtang Gorgasali, the man who founded Tbilisi
- Ride the cable car to Narikala Fortress, where you will enjoy the most mesmerizing view of the capital
- Head to the beautiful Legvtakhevi Gorge, where a waterfall roars - right in the heart of the million-dollar city
- Walk through a secret tunnel to the Kura River embankment and board the boat awaiting you
Boat Ride + Bonus
- The cherry on top is a half-hour boat ride. You will sail past ancient churches and see the Old Town from a different perspective. And the professional history guide will continue to unveil Tbilisi's secrets even on board.
- Of course, we won't send you home without a gift - individual recommendations of interesting but lesser-known places in Georgia (restaurants, churches, parks, museums, etc.) that you can visit independently. We bet you haven't heard about many of them!
