What to Expect
"Embracing like two sisters"
Our first stop will be at the viewpoint near the Jvari Monastery, offering a breathtaking panoramic view mentioned in Lermontov's poetry: the confluence of the majestic Aragvi and Kura rivers and the sights of Mtskheta. I'll tell you about the establishment of the Kingdom of Iberia here, why Georgians call their country Sakartvelo, and the two versions of the monastery mentioned in the poem "Mtsyri". Learn about the early spread of Christianity in Georgia. The interesting journey into the history of Orthodoxy continues at the Jvari Monastery, where the first cross was erected in Georgia, still emanating ancient energy.
Georgia's Main Cathedral
You'll visit the heart of Mtskheta, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where I'll show you significant icons, valuable relics, and the burial places of Georgian kings. Discover the translation of Svetitskhoveli, its historical events, architectural secrets, and the reasons behind its location. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the authentic streets of Mtskheta (where you can taste the most delicious churchkhela).
Shiomgvime – Almost a Hidden Gem
Our next stop is at the amazingly beautiful monastery with a rich history, rarely visited by tourists. Along the way, you'll have a unique view of the Jvari Monastery from an unusual angle, a viewpoint seldom seen by travelers. Learn various fascinating facts about Georgia, like the frequent use of the names Nino for girls and George for boys, and the origins of the names Aragvi and Kura rivers.
You can opt for lunch or dinner at the renowned "Salobie" restaurant in Mtskheta during the tour. I'll also tell you what makes it famous and its translated name.
