What to Expect
Ancient Sites and Island History
You will find yourself in a place where the first settlers of Rhodes once walked – on the majestic hill of Filerimos. Throughout the time the island has been inhabited, the hill changed hands many times. Phoenicians and Mekeneses, the legends of their clash that you will hear about, knights and Turks, Italians and Capuchin monks, all left their mark on the history of Rhodes. To reach the huge cross on Filerimos, you will have to walk the 'Way of the Cross' – an alley adorned with reliefs depicting scenes from the Bible. You will enjoy the breathtaking view from the observation platform near the cross, learn the history of all of Filerimos and one of its residents known as the 'desert friend' and see a large number of peacocks being fed by travelers.
Traces of Knightly Orders and Old Lindos
The island belonged to the knights for a long time, so you will definitely visit ancient fortresses. First, you will visit Kritinia, where towers and sturdy walls from the 14th century built by the Order of Jerusalem have been preserved. And then you will climb to the Monolithos Castle, which looks completely impregnable. This fortress is a magnificent viewpoint with the best views of Rhodes. We will also visit Cape Kranai to walk through ancient Lindos. I will tell you legends about how the oldest temple of Athena in Greece arose and how the Persians wanted to conquer Lindos, and then you will wander through the city with its ancient layout resembling a huge labyrinth.
The Amazing Nature of Rhodes
In the southernmost part of the island, you will witness a mesmerizing phenomenon: for many centuries, the waters of the two seas have been trying to merge into a single stream on a thin sandy isthmus (and sometimes they do! Perhaps you will be lucky to see it). On one side - the roaring Aegean Sea, on the other - the calm Mediterranean, and all this on a picturesque little peninsula covered with greenery. We won't swim here, but you can dip your feet in the spring water of the Seven Springs gushing from under the roots of plane trees. For Rhodes, this is a real wonder of nature, as fresh water on Greek islands is scarce. You will enjoy the coolness of the springs and then walk through a closed tunnel, at the bottom of which flows spring water, to come out of it as a slightly different person. I will show you the most beautiful bays of Rhodes from such panoramic points where no one takes travelers.
