Island's History and Legends
You will follow in the footsteps of Suleiman the Magnificent, learn the history of the Palace of the Grand Masters and the knights of the Order of St. John. Visit the 15th-century church of St. Panteleimon, which houses a miraculous icon and parts of the relics of Bishop Clement. Here are kept the belt and hat of St. John the Russian. You will also hear the legend of the formidable Rhodian dragon and stories of the grand seventh wonder of the world - the Colossus of Rhodes. I will tell you what the concept of 'philoxenia' means and what animal is the symbol of the island. You will immerse yourself in different eras and try to unravel the hidden secrets of ancient Rhodes, where Julius Caesar and Cicero mastered the art of rhetoric and the best athletes competed at the Pythian Stadium.
Diversity of Impressions
You will see the northern cape of the island, where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet, and the famous windmills at the lighthouse of St. Nicholas, reminding of Rhodes' former important role in world trade. Walk through the streets of the island that still preserve the spirit of the knightly era, and look at the houses where people have been living since the 14th century, descend into a real moat, visit a living ancient Greek theater where concerts and dramatic performances are still held annually. I will take you to the temple of Apollo Pythios, where you will touch the columns that are over 2000 years old, and then you will visit mysterious caves, where you will light candles in the cave of St. Nicholas the Benefactor. You will see ancient Rhodes and modern Rhodes from a bird's eye view, sipping delicious Greek coffee, and this spectacle will surely take your breath away.
