About this experience
The atmosphere of Rome owes much to the ensemble of delightful squares. Six of them will be the main characters of your journey. Meet: the lively Piazza Navona and the charming Piazza del Popolo, the elegant Piazza di Spagna and the noble Piazza Barberini, the grand Piazza di Trevi and the monumental Piazza Venezia. You will explore original works by great masters Caravaggio, Domenichino, and Carracci; understand the symbolism of sculptures by two famous rivals - Bernini and Borromini; see the house where 'Dead Souls' were born; learn about the role of noble families in the city's history. You will admire the inspiring panorama from the Pincho hill and toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, which will immerse you in the times of ancient gods, warriors, and kings...
What to expect
Piazza Navona
The walk will start at the baroque Navona square, where you will learn how the influence of the Roman popes manifested in the city's appearance. While admiring the elegant Fountain of the Four Rivers, a creation of the legendary Roman architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, I will tell you about the intrigues surrounding its construction. I will introduce you to the history of the construction of the Church of St. Agnes, where we will talk about the rivalry between two great architects: Bernini and Francesco Borromini. And a little further, you will reach the magnificent Church of St. Luigi Francesi, where you will study the originals of Domenichino's frescoes on the life of St. Cecilia and three works by the most scandalous artist of the era - Caravaggio.
Piazza del Popolo
In the winding alleys, I will show you the house where the artist lived, and where tourists never go. And also the Borghese House, where descendants of a noble family still reside. And here you will see the People's Square - you will see the Old City Gates and the ancient Egyptian obelisk, which is over 3000 years old! If we do not arrive when the Church of Santa Maria Del Popolo is closed (12:30-16:00), we will definitely go inside - here you will touch more masterpieces by Caravaggio, the master of light and shadow. Examine the work of Carracci 'The Assumption of the Virgin' and two sculptures by Bernini.
Spanish Steps and Barberini Square
After walking along the most famous street of boutiques and aristocrats, you will come to a square that unites 4 states on its territory. I will tell you about the history of relations between the French and Spanish communities, about the symbolism of Rome's business card - the Spanish Steps, and about the prehistory of the creation of the famous Barcaccia Fountain. Climbing the Pincho Hill, you will see a magnificent city panorama. Further along the way will be the Sistine Street and the house where Gogol lived and wrote 'Dead Souls'. And finally, Barberini Square with the outstanding Triton Fountain. We will talk about the master's special approach to his concept and the role of the noble Barberini family in the city's history. And again we will return to the theme of the rivalry between Bernini and Borromini - this time the reason will be the National Gallery of Ancient Art.
Trevi and Venice Squares
Continuing the theme of fountain art, we will visit the largest and most famous fountain in the city - Trevi Fountain. Near the grand structure, we will recall Roman deities and ancient legends hidden in the numerous elements of the composition. Considering all the important nuances, you, as tradition dictates, will be able to toss a coin for good luck. After that, we will briefly stop at the old church of the Twelve Apostles, where Michelangelo's remains once rested. And the walk will end at the foot of the Altar of the Fatherland in Venice Square, where I will tell you about the significance of its nicknames - Wedding Cake and False Jaw - and reveal the encrypted meaning of the statues adorning the building.
Organizational Details

The tour went smoothly, at a leisurely pace. Julia conducted the tour wonderfully. We slightly expanded the route beforehand to visit the church at Piazza del Popolo. The tour broadened our perception of the city, we were very pleased.
