About this experience
You will visit the most interesting places of East Berlin captured in textbooks. I will tell you authentic, funny, and sad stories of local residents. You will try traditional 'GDR-style' snacks, touch the legendary Wall, and pass through the 'to the West' checkpoint. And also enjoy the unique energy of the city: free, romantic, and incredibly attractive.
What to Expect
Walk through iconic places of East Berlin
The tour will start at the checkpoint from East to West on Friedrichstraße Bahnhof - you will learn why this place is called the 'Palace of Tears'. Then we will walk through particularly memorable places of the Wall, where most of the sad events took place. I will tell chilling stories of escapes from East to West and reveal details of the everyday life of ordinary East Berliners in the GDR museum. In the end, you will taste a real 'GDR-style' Kettwurst hot dog and walk across the Bösebrücke bridge, where the Wall first 'fell'. I will explain why and how this happened.
Bustling urban energy
You will see that Berlin still bears the scar of being divided into two cities, despite the fact that many years have passed since the fall of the Wall. Primarily, the tour is dedicated to the GDR and the fates of East Germans. In addition, my goal is to show you the eclecticism of the city's modern life. Because Berlin is undoubtedly the European New York. You will be amazed by the incredible intertwining of different cultures from all corners of the planet, the freedom of self-expression and opinions that reign in the city. Someone rightly noted that Berlin is a 'half-drunk guy with a guitar', a romantic, a bit of a hooligan and rebel, living for the moment, disheveled and messy, but devilishly charming and attractive. You will definitely feel this and fall in love with Berlin.
