What to expect
Cult places of Mtskheta and surroundings
Ancient capital of Georgia - a sacred place for every Georgian and a pilgrimage center for Christians around the world. Due to the incredible concentration of cult religious monuments, Mtskheta is called the 'Second Jerusalem'. During a stroll through the city, you will learn about the activities of the Georgian enlightener St. Nino of Cappadocia and the history of the spread of Christianity in our land. Visit the monastery of Jvari, built in the 6th century and immortalized in literature by Lermontov, and hear the legend about the Holy Cross placed here. You will also get acquainted with the magnificent architecture of the grand Cathedral of Svetitskhoveli, where one of the greatest relics is kept - the Lord's Robe.
Bodbe Monastery
Impressed by the atmosphere of antiquity and fantastically beautiful views of Mtskheta, you will head to no less picturesque place - the historic region of Kakheti. In the village of Bodbe, there is another iconic monastery - Bodbe Monastery, where St. Nino rests. Strolling through the beautiful and well-kept territory of the complex, you will see neat flower beds and lawns, vineyards and household buildings, church structures and a healing spring. Along the way, I will tell you about the emergence and difficult fate of the temple, about the coronation of the Kakhetian kings, and one of the largest repositories of church books in Georgia.
Signagi - the city of lovers
In conclusion of this spiritual journey, you will visit a small and very cozy town, the only one in the country where the fortress walls have been preserved in their original form. We will talk about the distant times of ruler Irakli II, the legend of the famous episode from the life of the artist Niko Pirosmani, and the round-the-clock House of Marriage, which earned Signagi the title of the city of lovers. From the observation platforms on the watchtowers, you will enjoy an unforgettable view of the Alazani Valley, where the legendary wines of Georgia are born.
