One Day Tour: Mtskheta, Kazbegi, Ananuri
About this experience
In one day we will visit the beautiful places of Georgia that were remembered by Pushkin, Lermontov, Tolstoy, Dumas, and many other famous people: the famous Military Georgian Road, the gorges of the Aragvi and Terek rivers, Darial Gorge, Mount Kazbek, the Cross Pass, and the impressive, majestic, heartwarming and awe-inspiring mighty mountains of the Main Caucasus Range!
What to expect
- The tour starts with a trip to the old capital of Georgia, the city of Mtskheta. We will see Jvari Monastery (the very one that Lermontov visited) and the spiritual center of the country - Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. We will take a stroll through the city center, which leaves an indelible impression after the historical reconstruction.
- Then, enjoying the views of the vast Zhinvali Reservoir, it will be time to visit the impregnable Ananuri Fortress, which for centuries guarded the entrance to the Aragvi River Gorge and was essentially the last line of defense. We will explore this fortress and make a comparative analysis of its capabilities.
- Next, after conquering the Cross Pass (2395 m above sea level) and passing by the ski resort of Gudauri, we will arrive in the village of Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). Here live the Khevsurs, fearless warriors with an inexhaustible sense of humor and an endless supply of hospitality. If desired, you can taste khinkali (as khinkali originates from these parts) or, for example, mkhlovani (a local authentic dish, similar to khachapuri, but with a filling of local cheese, beet tops, nettles, and alpine herbs).
- Mount Kazbek, the second highest peak in Georgia (5047 m), is visible from the square of the village on a clear day. Around it are incredibly beautiful mountains. Here flows the fierce Tergi, known as the Terek in the North Caucasus. By car, we will ascend to the top of one of the mountains near the town of Kazbegi: here is the famous Holy Trinity Sameba Monastery (14th century, height about 2400 m). In good weather, stunning views open up from here.
- We will also see the incredibly beautiful Darial Gorge, and in the evening, return to Tbilisi.

Vano is a walking encyclopedia. During the entire not easy and quite tiring journey, he talked about passing sights and not only. He is a very careful driver. If you are looking for a light stroll, this is not the place. If you want to delve deeply into the ancient history of Georgia with a professi...
