What to expect
Esztergom and the magnificent Basilica of Saint Adalbert
In the historical capital and center of Catholic Hungary, you will appreciate the grandeur of the country's largest cathedral, built on a high hill. Learn about the history of its construction - from the first temple founded in the early 11th century by order of King Stephen the Saint, to the present monument of religious architecture that took decades to complete. Special attention will be given to the basilica's magnificent interior with marble sculptures, columns, beautiful ancient frescoes, and mosaic. And from the viewing terrace, you will enjoy impressive views of the Danube and the Slovak city of Sturovo on the opposite bank of the river.
Visegrad Citadel: the spirit of the Middle Ages
Next, you will visit a city where you will encounter one of Hungary's most famous landmarks. This fortress with a rich history controlled the Danube bend, was repeatedly destroyed by invaders (especially the Turks), restored, and now serves as a real tourist mecca. Inside, you will see scenes of feasts and medieval balls portrayed by wax figures dressed in historical costumes. And, of course, you will admire new romantic views of the Danube.
Szentendre - a picture-perfect town
The special 'Mediterranean' atmosphere of the city and a large number of art workshops with galleries attract many lovers of applied arts here. You will stroll through the historic center, which evolved around the fortress hill of Var, and narrow streets and the central Fo square. Take atmospheric photos of bright, multi-colored late Baroque style houses from the 18-19th centuries. Along the way, you'll hear the history of the city, closely connected with Balkan peoples: Serbs, Bulgarians, and Greeks.
🍬 You will also have the opportunity to find excellent souvenirs: a wide selection of spices, ceramics, embroidery, marzipan figures, and much more. By the way, there is a Marzipan Museum in Szentendre, where you can not only see the finished products but also watch the process of making sweets and various sweet miniatures.
