About this experience
You will visit three completely different cities, each with its own story in Hungary's colorful life, and enjoy unforgettable landscapes of the Danube River. In Esztergom, you will discover the history of the country's largest cathedral, the Basilica of St. Adalbert, and, if desired, admire it from the opposite, already Slovak, bank. In Visegrad, you will encounter one of the highest and most impressive fortifications of Romanesque style in Central Europe, with stories about the Habsburgs, Dracula, and the V4 summit. And the charming Szentendre will immerse you in Serbian plots, a kaleidoscope of folk crafts, and colorful museums.
What to Expect
Esztergom: Cradle of the Hungarian state
The journey will begin with the first capital city of the kingdom and the residence of the Cardinal of the Catholic Church of Hungary. In the ancient territory of Esztergom, you will learn about the main stages of its rich existence and visit the city's main symbol - the Basilica of St. Adalbert, the largest in Hungary, where we will pay special attention to the embedded chapel, which is 300 years older than the temple. I will introduce you to the details of the Renaissance monument and its history of appearance. I will also tell you about the largest altar image of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, painted on a single piece of canvas. Optionally, we will visit the Slovak town of Sturovo on the right bank of the Danube - from there you will have the best views of the Esztergom Basilica, and you will also have the chance to taste excellent local beer 'Zoloty Fazan'.
Visegrad: Provincial Charm
Next, you will head to a tiny town located in a very picturesque and eventful place. I will tell you about the medieval history of Visegrad Fortress, the Habsburgs, Dracula, and the Visegrad Four summit. In the summer, you can attend knightly theatrical games, shoot a real bow or crossbow, and even hold a hunting falcon - in short, feel like an honored guest of a medieval castle. And throughout the year, you will be greeted by a unique view of the Danube landscape with valleys and wooded mountains at Visegrad's best viewpoint.
Szentendre: Orthodox Center of Hungary
The final point will be a city founded in the 17th century by Serbs who were fleeing the Turkish invasion. Walking through the winding streets, admiring Orthodox and Catholic churches and colorful houses, you will learn what led to Szentendre's prosperity. I will also explain why there are so many interesting museums here - marzipan, Christmas, wine (where the best tasting in the vicinity of Budapest is held). And, of course, passing by numerous shops, I will introduce you to authentic creations of folk art - porcelain and traditional embroidery - and gastronomic delights: goose liver and various types of salami.
Throughout the day, upon your request, we will set aside time to visit a cozy establishment where you will get acquainted with the national cuisine.
