About this experience
If you have already visited Budapest, it's time to discover the cities embellishing the Danube meadow. The most significant ones are waiting for you. In the ancient Esztergom, you will explore the grand basilica, in Visegrád, you will immerse yourself in the history and legends of the kings of Hungary. And in Szentendre, you will soak up the fairytale atmosphere and learn about the country's most creative city. Bonus features include tasting Hungarian wines, visiting the marzipan museum, as well as scenic Danube landscapes.
What to expect
On the way to the first stop, Esztergom, you will learn about the history of Budapest: its foundation as the capital of Hungary, and about the northern part of the city, which belonged to the Roman Empire in ancient times. I will also talk about the flora, fauna, agriculture, and national cuisine of the country.
Esztergom - Ancient Capital and Hungarian Vatican
46 km from Budapest, you will encounter the city of Esztergom, where our main goal is the monumental (travelers note its size) Basilica of Saint Adalbert on a high hill. You will learn about the construction of this first cathedral of Hungary and the spread of Roman Catholicism in the country. Inside, you will admire the interiors of the basilica, hear about the outstanding individuals buried in the crypt, and the peculiarities of the altar.
Ruins and Mysteries of Visegrád
In the 13th century, Hungarian kings chose the Danube meadow to build the mighty Visegrád fortress - offering the best views of the surrounding areas. Admiring the stunning landscapes, you will explore the ruins of the citadel, learn about the sieges it endured, and its destruction by the Habsburgs.
"Mediterranean" Atmosphere of Szentendre
The cozy Szentendre will inspire you, like the artists, sculptors, and writers who once lived here. Strolling through the winding cobbled streets, you will appreciate the variety of local architecture - from Orthodox and Catholic churches to colorful Baroque-style houses. Stories about the establishment of Szentendre, its connection to the Balkan peoples, and local crafts will enrich your walk. Additionally, you will visit the marzipan museum and taste Hungarian wine. After the city tour and lunch, you will have free time to explore the traditional workshops of the city's artisans.
Colorful Show - Knight's Tournament
In Visegrád, you will immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages - the era of noble knights and beautiful ladies. You will witness an exciting spectacle: a demonstration of the combat skills and battles of knights in armor. The tournament duration is 45 minutes.
