About this experience
The Danube Bend is one of the most beautiful regions of Hungary, combining centuries-old history, ancient architecture, and rich culture. We will visit three fairytale towns: Esztergom, Visegrad, and Szentendre. We will stroll through colorful streets, admire the houses with tiled roofs, climb ancient fortresses, and marvel at graceful temples.
What to expect
Esztergom – the first capital of Hungary
Esztergom is considered the cradle of Hungarian statehood and its religious center. Here, you will see the country's largest church – the picturesque basilica of Saint Adalbert – situated on a hill, and learn about what is kept in its treasury. You will also take a walk through the restored ruins of the Royal Palace and appreciate the majestic Maria Valeria Bridge. I will tell you about the city's development and the interesting events that have taken place here.
Visegrad – the summer residence of kings
In Visegrad, you will explore the 13th-century fortress, where ancient armor, hunting trophies, and weapons are kept – and climb the hill with stunning views. Additionally, you will hear an intriguing story about the prisoners of Solomon's Tower, including Count Dracula himself. We can also visit the Matthias King Museum – located in the former Royal Palace, discovered under the ruins in the 1930s.
Szentendre – the city of artists and museums
Founded in the 11th century on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, Szentendre has endured many wars and floods but always rebuilt itself. I will guide you through its charming cobbled streets, reveal why Szentendre is so popular among painters and sculptors, decipher the features of local architecture, and show you the most famous museums: marzipan, ceramics, wine, transportation, and Christmas.
