About this experience
This journey along the two banks of the Danube will introduce you to 4 historic cities. On the left bank, we will visit Vac with its well-preserved 18th-century architecture and the charming Nagymaros. Then we will cross the river on a ferry to admire the Danube's bend from a high vantage point, uncover the secrets of the Visegrád Castle, and wander through the streets of the artist's city, Szentendre.
What to Expect
Left Bank of the Danube: Vac and Nagymaros
First, we will stop in Vac, one of the country's first episcopates. You will be impressed by the cathedral, palace, and main square— a living museum of bourgeois architecture from the 18th century. We will then head to Nagymaros, where royal estates were located in the Middle Ages. We will explore a 14th-century church, a hilltop chapel, and the riverside, which offers a wonderful view of the Visegrád Castle. After that, we will cross the Danube on a ferry and continue our journey on the right bank.
Right Bank of the Danube: Visegrád and Szentendre
And here we are in Visegrád: after climbing the hill, we will visit the 13th-century castle, explore its main buildings, including Solomon's Tower, where Vlad Dracula was allegedly imprisoned. And, of course, from the high vantage point, we will enjoy the best view of the Danube bend.
Finally, we will stroll through the romantic streets of Szentendre— a town of Orthodox churches and art museums. You will learn why European artists fell in love with this town and, if desired, taste the local wines and marzipans.
