About this experience
Ready to travel back eight centuries and discover how a fishing village turned into a mighty nation? Why did Bishop Absalon build a palace-fortress here, and why did they spend 17 long years creating a sculpture of the father of the Danish constitution? You will visit Christiansborg Palace - the birthplace of the city, and hear many fascinating stories and legends.
What to Expect
Visiting the Queen
Copenhagen is a city of contrasts. The Danish kingdom harmoniously combines democracy on one hand and monarchy on the other. We will talk about modern Denmark, the royal family, the powers of Margrethe II, and then explore Christiansborg Palace - the center of Denmark's three branches of government. You will walk through the halls of Alexander the Great, the tower and throne rooms, and also peek into the royal library and the royal reception hall, where the queen hosts New Year's banquets for foreign diplomats and guests. I will show you a series of 17 luxurious tapestries and tell you which moments of Denmark's history are depicted on them.
Towers and Dungeons
You will learn how Absalon's fortress transformed into a political center of the Danish kingdom and explore its ruins in the basements of Christiansborg Palace. Finally, you will climb to the observation deck of the castle tower. From a height of 106 meters, you will have a view of the inner courtyard, the monument to Christian IX, the castle chapel, royal stables, museums, and the entire historical part of the capital.
Who Will Enjoy the Tour
For those who want to see what modern Denmark looks like, lovers of historic and modern architecture, history enthusiasts, and admirers of beautiful urban landscapes.
