About this experience
If you love legends, beautiful urban architecture, want to learn the recipe for Danish happiness, visit key points of the city in the company of a person who has lived in the capital of the kingdom for more than ten years, then this tour is for you. The overview walk is perfect for everyone who has come to Copenhagen for the first time, as well as for those who want to see and hear as much as possible in a condensed time frame.
I'm not sure what brought you to Copenhagen: cheap plane tickets, curiosity, love for delicious beer, or nostalgia for childhood and Andersen's fairy tales. But I'm sure that you have come to one of Europe's unique capitals! During our two-hour walk, I will show you practically all the interesting points of the city in its central, historical, and tourist parts.
On one hand, the Danish capital is rightly considered a gem of Scandinavia, but on the other hand, it is:
- a city of contradictions, where light drugs are traded a kilometer away from the Parliament building;
- a city where there are almost never traffic jams, and the number of bicycles exceeds the number of cars by 5 times;
- a city where people pay some of the highest taxes in the world and are happy about it;
- a city where a sandwich has become a cult, yet Copenhagen is the gastronomic center of Northern Europe.
Route
Our journey with you begins in the very center of the city at City Hall Square, where we will get acquainted with modern Copenhagen. Then we will walk to the historical part, where everything once began. We will see the place of public executions, the oldest fountain in the city Karitas, the Reformation monument, after which all Danes turned from Catholics into Protestants; the building of the University of Copenhagen, the oldest high school Regen, where students from the poorest layers of the population lived, the Round Tower, the Post and Telegraph Museum.
Here we are standing in front of the Parliament building—the political heart of Denmark. Here I will immerse you in the history of the Danish kingdom, tell you about the founder of Copenhagen, Bishop Absalon, underwater sculptures and legends of ancient Scandinavians, as well as what makes Copenhagen such a unique city compared to other world capitals. Do you want to know why the people living here have been recognized as the happiest on the planet for the past few years?
After admiring the statue of Absalon, the Stock Exchange building, Parliament, and St. Nicholas' Church, we will continue our way along the longest pedestrian street in Europe—Stroget. We will walk to the Royal Square and Nyhavn waterfront, the tourist mecca of Copenhagen. Here I will tell you about the Middle Ages, under what circumstances Denmark became one of the largest sugar exporters in Europe without having its own sugar production. We will remember the storyteller Andersen, who loved to live on the Nyhavn waterfront, and talk about the royal family and interesting facts about the relations between Denmark and Russia, which have lasted for more than 500 years to this day.
