About this experience
On this walking tour, you will get acquainted with the ancient culture, traditions, and customs of the Turkish people. Walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town Kaleici, see the architecture from Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. You will also visit the Dervish School - Muslim monk-ascetics - and learn about their lifestyle and studies.
What to Expect
📍 Mermerli Beach, also known as Marmira Beach - the oldest city beach in Antalya. The sea here is clean and calm. We will discuss how this place and its rules have changed over time.
📍 Ulu Medrese - a historical building in the center, formerly an educational institution. Today it is a cultural center where you will learn about the rich history and culture of the region. In the local shops, you can buy Turkish sweets and spices, and also try sherbet - the favorite drink of the Turkish sultans.
📍 Triumphal Gate of Emperor Hadrian. They were built in the 2nd century before the visit of Emperor Hadrian. The gates are located on Ishiklar Street, where you will also see the Antalya tram and the tallest palm trees in Turkey.
📍 Ataturk House Museum - the founder of the Turkish Republic. Ataturk visited Antalya twice and stayed in a two-story house during his visit, which is now a museum. Inside, you will see antique furniture, photos of the country's first president, and his personal belongings.
📍 Karaali Park. Its cozy paths will lead you to a viewing platform - from here you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views.
📍 Dervish School - monks, followers of Sufism. The school was built in the 14th century, and today it houses a museum. You will see an exhibition related to the life and education of the dervishes and learn the basics of Sufism philosophy.
📍 Old Port - we will stroll along the promenade, which in the times of the Ottoman Empire accommodated about 60 warships. Now it is home to the best fish restaurants in Antalya.
📍 Yivli Minare Mosque - the smallest mosque in the city, under which a spring of fresh water flows.
📍 Sefa Hamam - we will see the only operating bathhouse in the city, which was built back in the times of the Roman Empire.
