About this experience
Kaleici is a place of stunning beauty. On one side rise the Taurus Mountains, on the other side the waves of the Mediterranean Sea splash. And inside the fortress (which translates as Kaleiçi) there are a huge number of architectural monuments from the most venerable ages. We will take a leisurely stroll through the four quarters of Kaleici and remember the ancient stories enclosed in its stones.
What to Expect
- Republic Square, built in 1923. We will take a walk, admire the singing fountains, and take photos of Kaleici from the observation platforms.
- Mevlevi Museum. We will see it from the outside, but you can come here independently to watch the dervish dances held here on the first Friday of the month.
- Yivli Minaret Mosque in the Kalekapı district in the center of Antalya - one of the city's symbols with impressive architecture.
- Clock Tower - built in the Byzantine period, but converted into a clock tower during the Ottoman Empire.
- Statue of Attalus - a monument to the founder of Antalya.
- Temple of the Metropolis of Pisidia of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople.
- Bazaar Street, where you can find souvenirs and gifts for friends.
- Port of Antalya and port theater - next to them is one of the main sources of fresh water in Kaleici.
- 40 stone step staircase - the shortest but slipperiest passage leading to the port. However, it is the best place to see the wonderful harbor panorama.
- Hıdırlık Tower - a massive drum on a square base, probably built in the Hellenistic period.
- Antalya Ethnographic Museum, located in two historical mansions. We will explore artifacts from the Ottoman era.
- Hadrian's Gate, erected as a tribute to the Roman emperor who visited the city several times.
- Karaalioglu Park - the city's largest green area. Let's breathe in the fresh pine air and take a leisurely walk among the southern trees.
In the Old Town, there are plenty of places for lunch breaks: from establishments with local cuisine to European restaurants.
