About this experience
This introductory tour of the Old Town will transport you to the past - to the times of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. You will learn about the history of Antalya's foundation, hear about the Pergamum King Attalus, and understand the path taken to become a secular state. We will take you to interesting places, including the ethnographic museum and the observation deck.
What to Expect
- Monument in Antalya Square. We will start our acquaintance with the city from this symbol of the secular state. We will discuss the meanings embedded in it.
- Observation Deck. It offers a beautiful view of Kaleici. You will enjoy it and learn what has become the symbol of Antalya itself.
- Yivli Mosque. We will go down to examine the city's main adornment. We will tell you about the mosque and Islam. For example, why we, Muslims, pray 5 times a day.
- Port. We will head to the lower part of the Old Town to see the excursion pirate yachts. Here you will also learn where water carriers collected cold water in the 19th century for drinking and for sale to the residents of Kaleici.
- Ethnographic Museum. Let's take a look inside to immerse ourselves in the life and culture of Antalya's past epochs.
- Alleyways of Kaleici. You will admire the colorful landscapes and unique architecture of local 19th-century houses - there are not so many such buildings in Turkey. We will find the Hadrian's Tower and reach the gates of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, which were built in his honor when he visited Antalya. You will also hear the story of the Pergamum King: why did he come to Antalya and establish a city here? And of course, we will not miss the ancient mosque from the 13th century.
- Yshylar Street. Very lively and located along the fortress walls of the Old Town, it entices with its cozy cafes, bakeries, and colorful souvenir shops. Here are one of the first schools in Antalya and Ataturk's house, where we will learn more about the life of the first president of the republic.
